About Femke Kleisen – goldsmith and artist
My story begins in South Africa, where I grew up surrounded by a rich natural landscape that continues to inspire me to this day. From a young age, I was constantly drawing, sculpting, and creating. At Pro Arte High School, I deliberately chose art subjects such as sculpture, painting, and design. Working with my hands and bringing my own ideas to life felt completely natural.
After completing my goldsmith training in Schoonhoven, I returned to South Africa, where I worked for over 25 years as an independent goldsmith. It was there that my love for creating unique jewellery that is more than merely decorative—pieces that tell a story—truly developed.
Nature has always remained my greatest source of inspiration. The lines of leaves, the structures of flowers, the movement of birds—these organic forms reappear in my designs, sometimes subtly, sometimes very boldly.
These days, I work from my studio in the Veluwe region of Gelderland, surrounded by nature that inspires me every day. Here, my experiences and passions come together in the design of handmade jewellery in gold, silver, and other sustainable materials. For me, every piece of jewellery is a small work of art – a combination of craftsmanship, emotion, and beauty that will last a lifetime.
