A special project with meaning
It is always special when an order is more than just making a piece of jewellery. Recently, I had the opportunity to carry out such a special order: a member of the Urker Men’s Choir Hallelujah asked me to make a gold pin. Not just any pin, but one with a rich history and deep meaning.
The Urker Men’s Choir Hallelujah and the Urker traditional costume
The Urker Men’s Choi Hallelujah has been making an important contribution to preserving traditional Urk costume for many years. For Urk men, the suit is not just clothing; it is traditionally the choir costume and a visible symbol of connection with the past.
A characteristic feature of this costume is the silk scarf that is worn rolled up around the neck. A gold ring, originally a wedding ring, is threaded through this scarf. The scarf is often decorated with a gold pin at the neck. These pins come in various shapes, such as a fish, an anchor or a ship, each with its own symbolism and story.
For this order, I was asked to design something special: a golden bass key. A fitting symbol for a choir member, bringing together music and tradition. The pin is worn with pride on the “doekien”, helping to keep a centuries-old Urk tradition alive. It is an honour to be able to play a small but meaningful part in this cultural heritage through my work. A golden pin, not just to wear, but to pass on.
